Welcome to EmpowerHer Ghana

Women’s empowerment in Ghana is steadily advancing through efforts focused on education, economic independence, and leadership. Programs such as the Girls’ Education Unit and the Ghana Education Service’s Girls’ Education Program work to boost girls’ school enrollment and retention. Organizations like NBSSI and GAWE support women entrepreneurs with training, funding, and networking. Additionally, more women are rising to leadership roles, inspired by trailblazers like Joyce Bamford-Addo, Ghana’s first female Speaker of Parliament. The Domestic Violence Act (Act 732) and organizations such as the DVA Secretariat help protect women and girls from abuse. Although these initiatives have improved safety and empowerment, challenges remain—such as limited access to education and economic opportunities, gender-based violence, discrimination, and low representation of women in leadership. Despite these obstacles, Ghanaian women continue to show resilience and determination in driving positive change.
